I took a boxing class

I took a boxing class

When I walked into the boxing gym for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. Boxing had always fascinated me from afar, but I'd never stepped into a ring, never thrown a punch, and never donned a pair of boxing gloves. NOAC has a great boxing program, and I could always see the ring and cool bags when I passed. This experience would be one of the most challenging and exhilarating workouts of my life.

The moment I walked through the gym doors, I could feel the energy in the air. The sound of gloves hitting bags and the rhythmic thudding of feet skipping on the canvas filled the room. It was a world I had never explored before, and the anticipation was palpable. There was a really great instructor, he really knew boxing, and he had great energy.

As we began, I quickly realized that boxing was not just about throwing punches. It was a full-body workout that demanded an incredible amount of endurance. We started with a warm-up, which included squats and mountain climbers. It didn't take long for my heart rate to soar, and I could already feel the sweat trickling down my forehead.

The instructor then took us through seven grueling three-minute rounds on different bags. Each round focused on different aspects of boxing: speed, power, and technique. The rounds seemed to stretch on forever, and as I punched and moved, I could feel my muscles burning and my lungs working overtime to supply oxygen to my body. It was a physically demanding challenge that pushed me to my limits.

After the bag work, it was time for the moment I had been both anticipating and dreading - stepping into the boxing ring. I felt a mixture of nerves and excitement as I climbed through the ropes. The instructor put on pads and had me follow him around the ring throwing my two punches and getting back into position. It was here that I truly appreciated the skill and finesse required in boxing. Dodging, weaving, and throwing punches with precision are skills that will take a lot of repetition to improve and commit to muscle memory. It was all that I could do just to keep my gloves up in front of my face. Got my butt kicked without anyone even swinging at me.

The next day, I woke up feeling sore. My arms, shoulders, and core were all protesting the previous day's workout. But amidst the discomfort, I couldn't help but smile. The soreness was a testament to the effort I had put in, and it was a reminder of the incredible experience I had the day before.

Despite the soreness, I found myself eagerly looking forward to my next boxing class. The combination of physical challenge and mental engagement was addictive. I knew there was much to learn, and I was excited to improve my skills, build my endurance, and continue exploring this incredible sport.

My first boxing class was an eye-opening experience that left me physically drained but mentally invigorated. It taught me that boxing is not just about throwing punches; it's about discipline, technique, and endurance. While the soreness lingered, so did the sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the next class. Boxing had knocked me down, but it had also ignited a passion within me that I couldn't wait to explore further. It was more than a workout; it was an experience.
