On building things and finishing things before starting others.

I have a lot of irons in the fire. Greenhouse is half done and racing against planting season. Fence is half done and racing against puppy time. I have a wall in the house that has been removed but not replaced, storm doors, office ceiling and lights, I could go on.

It’s time to start putting some bows on some things, or at least getting them to the point that they are delivering value to the family before starting more things. We try to do this at work as well, start finishing things and stop starting things.

To this end I offer an update on the greenhouse. We have all of the plexiglass on, got the door installed, and got some sprouts going in the bay window of the house. I am expecting that this weekend we will get it to the place that we can start to put some plants in.

But, in true fashion, I have also started a new project. Back in October when we got married we went and ordered a very nice couch - a gift to ourselves. It’s six months later and still no couch. We called for an update, and they extended the estimate by six more months. In the meantime we have no where comfortable to sit and relax as a family unit.

I ordered some chince from Amazon but its so small and cheaply built that I can’t sit on it, I am 300lb man. We are returning it. So we can’t seem to order a couch, and we can’t have one made. So I am once again taking the ill advised path of doing myself something that takes skill.

I give you the frame of our new couch, and my tech debt of having to learn how to upholster. I am pleased to say that I do have an air powered staple gun and a wife who is interested to learn this as well. Godspeed to us both.
